Mountain Heaven has successfully managed chalets throughout the French and Swiss Alps for over a decade and approached Square Circle to help them reach new heights by completely redeveloping their website.

THE CHALLENGE

The ski chalet hire business is competitive, with customers expecting a five star service at three star prices. Mountain Heaven were finding that their existing website, which was essentially little more than an online brochure, didn’t offer the experience and functionality of the competition and wanted a new site with an online booking and payment system. Mountain Heaven’s business had been built on personal service and had developed a number of complex offline business rules that needed to be translated to the new site whist remaining streamlined and packaged in user friendly, responsive interface.

THE SOLUTION

After gathering Mountain Heaven’s requirements and carrying out in-depth research of the market Square Circle’s digital team decided that the complexity of the business rules meant that the site could not be built using an off-the-shelf CMS system. Instead a bespoke administration platform was developed upon the PHP Zend framework, which was deliberately selected because of its popularity meaning that Mountain Heaven weren’t tied to us for future updates.

 

At the same time the design and UX teams devised a front-end interface that not only looked slick but was useable on mobile and desktop devices.

THE RESULT

The fresh design and new booking functionality were received enthusiastically by Mountain Heaven’s associates and, far beyond the expectation of the site’s owners, began taking online bookings upon launch despite an unusually snow-free winter. The new interface was designed to offer maximum conversion opportunities, laying out the features and amenities of each chalet on a single page rather than spreading them over several sub-pages. The result? Chalets were being fully booked months in advance. And where previously such bookings had been handled with a number of Excel spread sheets, the new central administration system now enabled reservations and payment to be managed from a single, online system.
