Attracting seven thousand runners each year the Great Midlands Fun Run is one of the largest events of its kind in the country. As a major sponsor Square Circle has contributed its services free of charge to help promote it.

THE CHALLENGE

The Great Midlands Fun Run has been a major charity event in Sutton Coldfield since 2003 and following the reinstatement of the town’s Royal status it was decided that the brand should be reinvented.

 

The event organiser wanted to incorporate recognised, established elements with those representing royalty and Sutton’s history.

THE SOLUTION

Although the remit was to introduce royalty to the Fun Run brand we did not want to go over the top with crowns and regal devices. Instead our designers took a more subtle approach by incorporating the Tudor rose, the emblem of Henry VIII the town’s benefactor, with an evolutionary reworking of the existing logo.

 

Print ready and electronic versions of the logo were produced that were supplied to merchandise and medal suppliers and the official website, social channels and email templates upgraded.

THE RESULT

The new brand was unveiled at the end of 2014 and was immediately picked up by regional media, appearing in press and on TV. The event organiser was thrilled with the reaction it received and its influence in moulding this huge event for Royal Sutton Coldfield and the Midlands.
